About this data
What happens when a model is retired?
The endpoint stops answering. Depending on the provider you will get an error, or be silently routed to a successor model that behaves differently — which is often worse, because your application keeps working while quietly producing different output.
How much warning do providers usually give?
It varies widely. Some announce six to twelve months ahead, others give a few weeks. That inconsistency is exactly why this page exists — there is no single place providers publish these dates.
Why is a model I use not on this list?
Because no retirement date has been published for it. Absence here means "nothing announced", not "safe forever".
What should I do before a date arrives?
Test the successor model against your own prompts rather than trusting the migration guide. Pricing, context window and output style all commonly change between generations, and behaviour differences show up in your evaluations, not in a changelog.
